BLACK AND WHITE TIE DIGNIFIED DINING WITH TACA Were we at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, or had we been transported to dinner at Lord Grantham's Downton Abbey estate? It was hard to tell at the TACA Custom Auction Gala, the black-tie supper that raises funds for performing arts organizations in North Texas. Every detail was perfection: The Mansion's silver and crystal settings sparkled, and the menu — flawlessly prepped by the Mansion Restaurant's culinary team — was superb, from the lobster to the hazelnut macaroons. Chairs Barbara and Don Daseke, honorary chairs Carrie and Andy Teller and the event's chairmen-elect, Dianne and Mark LaRoe, thrilled at the post- dinner live auction, where top bids went to a weeklong European vacation and a day of pampering and personal shopping at Neiman Marcus Downtown. With final donations secured, Champagne corks popped toasting a late- night dance party. DSO: RIGHT ON SONG Entertain. Inspire. Change lives through music. Such has been the mission of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra since its first concert more than a century ago — on May 22, 1900, to be exact. Season after season, the DSO melodically dazzles, but one evening is the most anticipated each year: The Dallas Symphony Orchestra AT&T Gala and After Party at the I.M. Pei- designed Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. This year, the featured artist was Israeli violinist Pinchas Zukerman, with the DSO's Dutch music director, Jaap van Zweden, conducting. Event designer Todd Fiscus took a note from Zukerman's playbook — the musician is known for his pristine sound — with minimalist white- and-gold splendor and a gilded installation of light projected onto the Meyerson's walls. Co-chairs Jennifer and Coley Clark and Katherine and Key Coker, along with DSO president and CEO Jonathan Martin and honorary chair Glenn Hegar, welcomed top- tier patrons into the expansive lobby for dinner. Then Van Zweden and Zukerman worked their magic, performing for a sold-out crowd in the acoustically perfect concert hall. Curtain call was an after-party hosted by the Vivaldi Patron Circle — the DSO's young professionals group.
