ETRO ANNE LEE PHILLIPS DONS A PAISLEY PRINT. PHOTOGRAPHY JAY TOVAR. PATTERN PLAY AT OPENING FÊTE I n true Italian fashion, Etro's vibrant prints and lush fabrics are a family affair: The design house, founded by Gimmo Etro in 1968, is still run by his children. Etro passed his passion for culture and love of collecting on to the next generation, and every Etro store, from Milan to Beijing, is filled with art, antiques and, of course, vibrant velvet coats, rich cashmeres and patterned silks. For the opening-night fête of the Etro store at Houston's new River Oaks District, chairs Patti and Don Murphy and Elizabeth and Alan Stein, along with PaperCity, welcomed a fashionable crowd to the boutique, which is rich with lacquered surfaces, polished marble floors and stitched suede. Etro's Carrie Crecca, in from NY, and store director Sonya Shernak held court in iconic paisley-print jackets as the fashion set sipped cocktails, shopped the resort collection and buzzed about the party favors: embossed leather clutches and agendas that spared no expense. Partying with the prints: Estela Cockrell, Jacob Stein, Lindsay Beale, Kara Garofono, Karina Barbieri, Amy Rosas, Kendra Smith, Rickilee Mercer, Chiara Casiraghi, Tanya Bonnette, and Maryam Afshari and James Khreibani. Over the course of three super- glam evenings, the stylish set posed for pics on the 50-foot pink carpet inside Million Air —the massive private airport hanger turned fashion paradise by Todd Events — before taking in 10 runway shows. On night one, designer Ralph Rucci presented timeless beauty/ supermodel Carmen Dell'Orefice with the Texas Legacy Award. The brainchild of tastemaker Vivian Wise, the three nights of style benefitted the Texas Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit formed to donate proceeds to Legacy Community Health Services, Meals on Wheels, and Butterflys and Bandages. Each charity received a whopping $33,000.
