D ecorative Center Houston pulled in a marquee name as speaker to celebrate its 30th anniversary and Fall Market: designer Miles Redd. Since launching his firm in 1998, Redd has skyrocketed to the top of the designer A-list with his vivid and cinematic approach to interiors. Architectural Digest recently published one of his Houston projects, and Redd revealed he is working on another project in town (but coyly refused to name names). He elaborated on his oft-quoted saying "Buy the best and you'll only cry once" by explaining that "one good thing will elevate everything else in the room." After revealing his personal inspirations (old movies, Cecil Beaton, the 1971 book Jansen Decoration), Redd and other designers chatted with Schumacher creative director Dara Caponigro in the Schumacher showroom, where Redd debuted his swoon-worthy new fabric and wallpaper collection. Also on the market schedule that day: Lloyd Princeton, who spoke about reigniting the creative fire; Michael Berman, who discussed creative resolve; and artist Charlie Weiss and young panelists Katie Kime, Meg Lonergan, Paloma Contreras, moderated by Kate Stukenberg, who revealed tips and tricks on how designers can promote themselves in the digital age.
