D esigner and British socialite Nicky Haslam is simply one of the most interesting international dandies to pay us a visit in quite some time. His madcap reputation is as whimsical and dramatic as the interiors he designs: He swung in the '60s with Jean Howard and Andy Warhol and, since forming his NH Design business in 1972 in London, he has designed parties for the Prince of Wales and interiors for Mick Jagger and aristocrat Janet de Botton. No doubt expectations were high for Josy Collins when her Scott + Cooner showroom played host for a book signing and fête celebrating Haslam's latest tome, Nicky Haslam: A Designer's Life (Rizzoli). The evening began with Haslam on stage for a talk, leading the style-minded audience through his book's splashy pages of archival photographs, personal mementos and cheeky, anecdotal commentary. Interior designer Laura Hunt was inspired by Haslam's book and said she was making mental notes for penning her own. Post-chat, guests queued to have their copies signed. To everyone's delight, the designer was quite chatty, turning on the high-wattage Nicky Haslam charm. Cathy Phillips (with whom Haslam bunked while in Dallas) spoke about her aunt, the inimitable Jean Howard, with Haslam chiming in about the late movie star's beauty. On the scene: Kurt Purdy, Holly Hutchinson, Randy Price, Siobhan Westapher, Natalie Crosby, Laura Petka, Kathleen Sierra, Susan Marcus, Mary Bloom, and Barry Williams. BY JANE ROZELLE. So decreed Andy Warhol. Joanne and Charles Teichman, the husband-wife owners of Ylang 23, have long surpassed 15 minutes: They've kept their beloved jewelry boutique at the top for 30 years, in no part due to an impressive roster of top designers (Jennifer Meyer, Irene Neuwirth, Cathy Waterman, et al.), philanthropic leanings, and some of the best parties in town. To toast to 30 years, the couple paired with Christie's and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Arts to stage a Warhol–inspired soirée. With a little help from their friends — most notably Capera Ryan, who recently took on the title of deputy chairman of Christie's for the Americas — 20 of Warhol's significant works were flown in from the Warhol Foundation and installed at The Space on Oak Lawn. Joining the million-dollar art — a photo booth, of course, and Brillo boxes aplenty, plus the famous Beatles cover band A Hard Night's Day. Factory friends: Kenny Goss, Robert Weatherly, Andrea Smith, Ceron, George and Julia Kanaan, Mason Flink, Drew Levey, Meg Florence, Elizabeth Kaupus, Lauren and Jon Havens, Devon Schiff, Candy and Ike Brown, Kevin Summers, Jill and Gary Stolbach, Joi Henderson, Oliver Smith, Debra and Russell Leitch, Buddy Campbell, Cindy and Jay Carter, Gary Kusin, Paige and Randy Flink, and Laura Myrick.
