A love of the great outdoors is woven into Filson's heritage — the company first launched in the late 1800s during the Klondike Gold Rush, when founder C.C. Filson used his mill to fashion clothing, boots, blankets and sleeping bags for weary miners. Now with storefronts across the U.S. and London, Filson brings its full run of heritage outdoor apparel, bags, leather goods and accessories to Highland Park Village. An outdoorsman's haven, the store stocks Tin Cloth jackets and Mackinaw Cruisers, stacks of hunting and fishing gear, luggage (duffels, backpacks, rucksacks, travel kits, coolers) and glass cases displaying Filson's watch collection. Like its HP Village neighbor, Shinola, all of Filson's timepieces are crafted in Detroit — the new Dutch Harbor collection ($750 to $950) is inspired by classic dive watches from the '50s. The busy founder of Cover Swim — the sun-protective collection of bathing suits, dresses, cover- ups and swim shirts — never tires of incorporating contemporary art into her fashion line. In past seasons, Moore (a collector herself) has partnered with contemporary painter Richard Phillips and photographers Steve Wrubel and Gray Malin. Now illustrator Donald Robertson gets his turn with the recent launch of Cover Swim x Donald Robertson capsule collection. Four pieces boast Robertson's signature illustrations, depicting ladies and gents at the seaside in vintage attire suggestive of the 1930s. Now, all you need is the beach. Christina Geyer New Under THE SUN Several swanky night spots inspired Richard and Tiffanee Ellman's new late-night cocktail lounge Quill, nestled in the Dallas Design District. "I love the lush velvets and the vinyl-spinning DJ at Rose Bar in New York City, and my wife was drawn to the malachite greens of the London Edition," says Richard, who also co-owns Design District haunts Pakpao, Oak and El Bolero, under the Apheleia Restaurant Group umbrella. Inside Quill, plush emerald-green seating and gold fixtures create a moody vibe in this restaurant/club/bar hybrid, where chefs John Tesar and Joel Harrington's small-plate menu offerings — kim chi fried rice, ceviche, mini Cuban sandwiches and burger sliders — go hand-in-hand with inventive cocktails courtesy of James Slater. In another collaboration, Quill's secluded Ink Room offers custom dinners catered by Quill, Oak or Joe Palladino's Nick and Sam's. Quill, 1628 Oak Lawn Ave., 214.484.8702. Linden Wilson Quaffing at QUILL S everal years ago in Paris, I became smitten with the Longchamp Le Pliage tote, a beautiful canvas bag with signature leather flap and equestrian logo. The chic and sturdy classic held my travel essentials and remains an accessory staple to this day, so I can't wait to expand my collection when Longchamp's first Texas store opens in NorthPark Center this month. The French brand, founded in 1948 by Jean Cassegrain, is still owned by the family and was named for the thoroughbred racetrack at Bois de Boulogne park because the Cassegrain family name had been claimed by another business. The Dallas boutique stocks the full run of bags, luggage, small leather goods, men's carryalls, scarves and travel essentials such as passport holders, wallets and luggage tags. In a decorative play on Longchamp's beloved notion of the fold (le pli), accordion-like displays showcase a rainbow of the most sought-after styles: Le Pliage, Le Pliage Heritage, Le Pliage Cuir, Pénélope, Roseau and Honoré 404. Longchamp, NorthPark Center, 214.987.6999, longchamp. com. Linden Wilson ABOVE the Fold A signature scent is a must-have accessory. For a less populist spritz, try Eden Square Apothecary, the new shop-in-shop at Elements boutique, one of just 10 Eden Square shops in the U.S. Nine international fragrance collections fill the shelves — more than 60 scents from small-batch perfumers Costume National, Histoires de Parfums, Juliette Has A Gun, Montale, Molinard, Amouage, Nomeclature and Roja Dove, plus Fornasetti's full complement of home scents and candles.
