letter publisher STEVEN VISNEAU, SISTERBROTHER MGMT 26 T he stories covered within these pages and the events PaperCity is involved in are a constant reminder of what an exciting time it is to live in Dallas. This was made most clear during a recent PaperCity-sponsored event to kick off the 10-year anniversary of the Dallas Art Fair, which makes its entrée next month. Held in the model unit for the soon-to-debut Hall Arts Residences, in the heart of the Dallas Arts District and adjacent to the site of the future residential tower and Hall Arts Hotel, the event inspired us to pause and think about how much progress our city has made on its journey to becoming not just an internationally renowned art hub, but a vibrant urban center with a bustling arts district and downtown to prove it. The 28-story Hall Arts Residences tower, scheduled for completion in 2020, will add to the skyline and vibrancy of the area by providing luxury homes within walking distance of the city's most important arts institutions, including the Nasher Sculpture Center, Winspear Opera House, and Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, as well as the growing list of restaurants that seem to pop up daily in the neighborhood. Already adding to the liveliness of the district is Musumé, an Asian-fusion restaurant that opened late January in the Hall Arts building, neighboring the popular Flora Street Café. Managing editor Linden Wilson takes us for a culinary tour of the new spot, on page 84. Just down the street, the Dallas Museum of Art hosts its annual Art in Bloom luncheon Monday, March 26. The PaperCity-sponsored event benefits the Dallas Museum of Art's exhibition and education programs as well as the DMA League's floral endowment fund. This year, we'll welcome New York artist Michael De Feo, known as the Flower Guy, who makes headlines with his whimsical paintings appearing atop a number of fashion ads in collaborations with brands such as Neiman Marcus, Christian Louboutin, and J. Crew. It's not to be missed. As we enjoy March and approach the Dallas Art Fair and its surrounding flurry of art-focused events — the Nasher Prize Gala, MTV Re:Define, et al. — we look forward to celebrating the growth that has taken our city by storm over the course of the past decade. No doubt, the Dallas Art Fair has played a pivotal role in this, placing Dallas on the global arts and culture stage. We are already gearing up for the fair's big anniversary, with its recently revealed list of 2018 exhibitors, which boasts galleries from 30 cities across the world. It all begins with the kickoff party on Thursday, April 12. For up-to-date Dallas Art Fair news, click to papercitymag.com — our intrepid visual arts editor Catherine D. Anspon is keeping close tabs on it all. Briana Buxbaum Dallas Publisher briana@papercitymag.com
