30 MADE IN THE SHADE SHELBY HODGE PULLS UP THE BLINDS. PHOTOGRAPHY EMILE C. BROWN. A fter making the decision to open a second location in Houston, The Shade Store lead- ership out of New York waited a year, in order to snag the perfect address. The first showroom in Decorative Center Houston caters to the trade, while the new store in Highland Village Shopping Center is for those of us normal folk who love design but are not official designers. Michael Crotty, The Shade Shop's savvy chief marketing officer, expects to see those in the trade popping in on weekends when the DCH showroom is closed. To celebrate the opening in Highland Village, designers, clients, and friends communed with hosts and designing duo Sarah Jawda and Saba Jawda. Waitstaff from Catering by Culinaire circled the showroom while guests perused the myriad shade offerings, including collaborations with Jonathan Adler and One Kings Lane, Lilly Pulitzer, Nate Berkus, Ralph Lauren, among others, with Aerin Lauder coming soon.
