JENNY ANTILL Asia Society's Pair of Provocative Openings John Bradshaw Jr., Judy Nyquist A sia Society Texas Center paired with Zulu Creative to throw an engaging opening bash for dual exhibitions: "Portraiture Now: Asian American Portraits of Encounter" and "Kip Fulbeck: Part Asian, 100% Hapa." The reception featured live performances from internationally acclaimed Filipino-American musician DJ Qbert and Houston-based DJ Henry Chow. Nearly 1,000 partygoers danced the night away and indulged in a well-curated sushi station by Glen Gondo & Sushic, the Sushi Company. Both exhibits were open late for sneak previews, and revelers lined up to admire the photography and multimedia pieces exploring the Asian/mixedrace experience in America. Guests were encouraged to snap self-Polaroids and label them with their ethnicity in an interactive take on the night's theme of identity. (Both shows are on view through April 14.) In the mix: Frank Goodyear, Judy Nyquist, Amy Hever, Morgan Holleman, Tina Zulu, Asia Society executive director Martha Blackwelder, DJ Elevated, Divya and Chris Brown, Erika and Hector Del Valle, Divya Murthy, and artist/scientist Rahul Mitra.
