71 was an organic partnership at its finest. In early December, Forty Five Ten premiered windows at its downtown flagship store created by Ruby to celebrate Simons' Calvin Klein Pre- Spring 2019 collection. A large, now signature mobile designed by Ruby hangs in each window and includes highly reflective chrome elements, from a bucket and baseball bat to half- moon shapes and textile elements such as pom-poms and fringe. Ruby had previously transformed spaces at the Calvin Klein global flagship store on Madison Avenue and showrooms in both New York City and Paris. Given Simons' recent departure from Calvin Klein (word is still out as to whether he left on his own accord or was about to be unceremoniously shown the door for not creating the lightning in a bottle that marked his years as creative director of Dior), it might be a good idea to check out the windows and be reminded of the short- lived rebellion that took place at CK before that installation at Forty Five Ten comes down mid-month. I think of Ruby as a rebel with a cause: an artist who asks questions about life through a multilayered approach with materials and source inspiration. Be prepared for moments of reflection as you wander through the light-filled galleries filled with the artist's sculptures. "Sterling Ruby: Sculpture" at the Nasher Sculpture Center, February 2 through April 21, nashersculpturecenter.org.
