in love with Jamie Rosen, the former beauty director at Hearst. She is the perfect person to edit our well-being category — a real- life mom that lives and breathes clean beauty. Cindy Weber-Cleary [former fashion director at InStyle] is a longtime friend and industry legend who practically invented real-life dressing. Will Kahn [Town & Country fashion and accessories director] has taken his Instagram concept of Will's Notebook and truly brought it to life in our jewelry area. Most important, they are all true New Yorkers. Aside from the editors involved with the store, who else will have a presence inside The Conservatory? Lucy Wrubel is doing our music. In Teak, baked goods are by Bouchon Bakery, Waris Ahluwalia is doing tea, and Casa Dragones is doing a reservation-only tasting room concept at night. Take me to opening night: Your friends-and-family event had to feel pretty special, with a contingent of your longtime Dallas and New York supporters in attendance. I'm real sentimental, and it felt like home. My favorite Dallas ladies literally rolled up their sleeves and were putting tags on product hours before the party. Having Lucy Wrubel spinning music, my friends laughing and drinking tequila in Teak, and my patient husband being there meant the world. I also was thrilled to have old New York friends there to be a part of it — Narciso Rodriguez, Thakoon, Derek Lam, Peter Som. We've all been though a lot together, and it felt very comforting. How do you plan on splitting your time between Dallas and New York? This is a baby that needs to be nurtured, so the plan is to be here three or four nights, every other week. My life is in Dallas and always will be. The home offi ce for The Conservatory is in Highland Park Village, and I love my team there. I'm striving for real work/life balance, something I have not done successfully in the past. Are there plans (or hopes) for future stores in other locations? I can't even think about it right now. I know the right path will reveal itself.
