O ne appropriately themed Night at the Museum barely allows time to skim the 11 interactive exhibits on display at Dallas latest tour de force, the new Perot Museum of Nature and Science the $185 million repository designed by Thom Mayne. Event chairs Kelly and Brock Compton and honorary chairs Sally and Forrest Hoglund went into overdrive and brought the 180,000-square-foot space to life for 2,000 guests during its unforgettable grand opening gala. People knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, said Kelly. In fact, we didnt even create party invitations, because tickets were sold out months in advance, with a long waiting list. Guests are still reeling from their simulated adventures surviving earthquakes, touching tornados, flying with birds, speeding Honorary through light, building skyscrapers, and racing chair Forrest dinosaurs. (The latter was no easy feat when Hoglund stiletto heels and a couple of cocktails are involved, as this writer can attest.) We salvaged our pride by swapping Manolos for flip-flops and hit the dance floor ruled by the empress of spin, Lucy Wrubel. Chaperoned by the enormous Malawisaurus dinosaur towering above, wannabe physicists, geologists and fossil finders dug the tunes. In the crowd: Brad Beaird, Holly Reed, Ebby Halliday, Trammell Crow, Alissa Ireland, Richard Eiseman, Karen and Alan Katz, Cody Wikert, Laurie Hickman Cox, Clint Chaffin, Donna and Michael Williams, Rebekah and Matt Jameson, Caroline Rose Hunt, Caren Prothro, Marnie and Kern Wildenthal, Ann Pomykal, and Lane Britain. PHOTOGRAPHY SHARON ELLMAN, RHIANNON LEE, ANDY MOORE. Pat Green T he Jewel Charity Ball is never short on brilliance, as 2,000 guests at the 59th annual fund-raiser can attest. Designer Bill Robertson transformed the Fort Worth Convention Center into a field of dandelions his interpretation of Simple Wishes, this years theme. Co-chairmen Valerie Mallick and Jan Scully certainly made the dreams of Cook Childrens Medical Center come true, helping to generate more than $3.3 million to support young patients with uncompensated care. After a cocktail hour, silent auction and dinner, the dance floor swiftly filled as Rhythm Nation hit the stage. Those needing a break from the boogie headed to the Eiseman Jewels counter official jeweler of the evening for a different kind of breathtaking experience. But lest you think it was all razzle-dazzle, JCB president Michele Reynolds ensured everyone, including herself, kept it real, saying, My simple wish is to live in the present moment and always appreciate the little things. Having a ball: Mary and Tom Bates, Janet and Frank Cappuccio, Jessica and Matthew Upchurch, LuJo and Mac Churchill, Therese and Tom Moncrief, and Noel and David Nolet.
