SWALLOWERS 38 FROM GARDEN PARTY TO SWORD SHELBY HODGE RIDES THE WAVE. PHOTOGRAPHY JENNY ANTILL CLIFTON, DANIEL ORTIZ, WILSON PARISH. H ow lovely, the flower-drenched opening to the Houston Symphony's Vintage Music Garden gala. And how swiftly the tempo changed with the after-party, when the genteel atmosphere revved into carnival-like merriment. At the Post Oak Hotel, gala chairs Dr. Courtney and Bill Toomey led the throng through dinner and the honoring of past Houston Symphony Society presidents, then turned the reins over to Elise Lubanko and Lexi Sakowitz, who helmed the late-night after-bash. While the Jordan Khan Orchestra played, the ladies led a conga line through a scene that included a ringmaster, a sword swallower, stilt walkers and next-gen arrivals. The soirée in two acts garnered proceeds of $1.3 million — $41,000 of which came from Tenenbaum Jewelers raffle of his-and-hers Rolex watches.
