STYLE & SUBSTANCE 97 I t's a balmy, early-spring morning, and a small group has gathered at Neiman Marcus Downtown. We've arrived to kick off our two-day photo shoot with The Crystal Charity Ball's Ten Best Dressed Women of Dallas. After decades of featuring this golden contingent of women in PaperCity's September issue, this is the first year we are photographing their portraits at the storied Neiman Marcus flagship store downtown. The Glass House, a pillar within the couture salon, was our makeshift studio; Carolina Herrera's latest collection was at our fingertips; and, downstairs in the jewelry salon, Australian designer Margot McKinney awaited (armed guard in tow), ready to drape each woman in one of her gorgeous, one-of-a-kind pearl and precious-stone creations. This month, we return to Neiman Marcus Downtown to celebrate the women in these pages, at The Crystal Charity Ball Ten Best Dressed Fashion Show & Luncheon. And, while the honor is formally named Best Dressed, these woman are far more than fashionistas: They are fêted here for their longtime dedication to the many children's charities supported by The Crystal Charity Ball and for their innate sense of social grace — two things, benevolence and elegance, that truly define great style. To dress them, Wes Gordon — Carolina Herrera's darling creative director — will return to Dallas, bringing the fresh- off-the-runway fall collection to Neiman Marcus. Gordon first made a visit to Dallas nearly a decade ago, when he was just a bright young thing launching his namesake label. He has come a long way since that first trunk show — and, no doubt, the women of The Crystal Charity Ball will thrill at having him back in town, this time as the dandy gent behind the fashion house they've long adored.
