letter publisher 32 MISAEL RODRIGUEZ T his month is especially exciting for me, as it marks my first issue as publisher of PaperCity Dallas. I have admired PaperCity for many years, and I couldn't be more thrilled to join the magazine's talented team. In many ways, I feel as if all my past jobs have led me to this one. I started my publishing career in Austin, working in marketing at Texas Monthly, where I developed a passion for media and strong journalism. My path then led to Dallas. Here, I joined the team at D Magazine and met some of my closest friends and mentors who have shaped who I am today. In fact, three of these smart, driven women took me along with them on one of the hardest, most rewarding journeys of my career: launching CultureMap in Dallas. After seven years building and growing the CultureMap business across the state of Texas, I was approached with the opportunity to join PaperCity as Dallas publisher. To me, this is more than a job: It is a dream opportunity that unites my passions for the ever-evolving worlds of print and digital publishing. From growing our digital platforms to expanding our print business, there are many exciting things on the horizon for PaperCity. Topping that list is PaperCity's first foray west. After 21 years in Dallas (and 25 years in Houston), we launch PaperCity Fort Worth this month, officially kicking off plans for a semiannual print publication, and daily content on papercitymag.com/fortworth. Late this summer — and just in time for the fall social season — we launched our new Events Calendar on papercitymag.com. It's incredibly dynamic, making it even easier to discover the important social and charitable happenings in our city. Speaking of events, September kicks off a whirl of parties, luncheons, and cocktail fêtes — and we couldn't be more thrilled to continue our longtime partnerships with several philanthropic organizations. We kick off a packed month of PaperCity-sponsored events on Friday, September 13, when we celebrate The Crystal Charity Ball's Ten Best Dressed Women of Dallas at Neiman Marcus Downtown. That weekend also marks the opening of Dallas Contemporary's blockbuster John Currin exhibition, "My Life as a Man." As Dallas Contemporary's annual media partner, we look forward to its innovative lineup of thought-provoking exhibitions. The Wilkinson Center's Spirit of Taos and Klyde Warren Park's inaugural Friends of the Park kick-off both take place Saturday, September 14, and the Other Art Fair by Saatchi Art comes to town on Thursday, September 19. You won't want to miss North Texas Food Bank's Harvest on Friday, September 20. And Saturday, September 21, we are eager to attend Citysquare's A Night to Remember, which brings comedians Martin Short and Steve Martin to the Winspear Opera House. The month comes to a close with the KidneyTexas Luncheon and Fashion Show on Tuesday, September 24, and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Gala with Grammy Award–winning violinist Joshua Bell on Saturday, September 28. Talk about a whirlwind September! Brooke Dowdy Dallas Publisher brooke@papercitymag.com
