C ommissioned as the headquarters of Sinclair Oil Company in 1930 during Texas' early- 20th-century oil boom, the 17-story Sinclair Building has served as a beacon of enterprise and progress in the Sundance Square district. Newly reimagined as The Sinclair, a Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel, the iconic downtown building has undergone a painstaking four-year restoration by Merriman Anderson Architects, retaining the original Art Deco style and historic architectural elements. ForrestPerkins oversaw the interior design of the hotel and the rooftop bar, while Dash Design handled the lobby bar and restaurant, The Wicked Butcher. But this is more than a stylish nod to the past. As the first building in the world to have a lithium ion battery pack for emergency power, as opposed to a diesel generator, The Sinclair is years before its time. Consider it the Tesla of hotels. Luxurious high-tech amenities such as touchscreen mirrors, LG 8K wallpaper televisions, and Kohler digital showers transport us to the now. The Sinclair, 512 Main St., thesinclairhotel.com.
