F or its annual gala celebration — this year themed "Come Dance With Us" — the Texas Ballet Theater Board of Governors selected Janet and Crawford Brock as honorary chairmen. The Brocks have long supported Texas Ballet Theater, both personally (Crawford's mother was a dancer, so the connection runs deep) and by way of their Dallas store, Stanley Korshak. Stanley Korshak has supported Texas Ballet Theater's winter fashion show and luncheon for years, with the Tutu Chic Fashion Show & Luncheon. A reception and seated dinner were held at the Maddox-Muse Center, followed by a performance of works by choreographers William Forsythe and Christopher Bruce at Bass Hall. The after-party proved the perfect excuse to stay out late: Dessert and sliders were served, and a live band gave guests an excuse to take their own twirl. Two months later, to toast the debut of Pinocchio (a co-production with The National Ballet of Canada), opening- night chairs Nikki Webb and Keith Hughes composed an elegant pre-performance reception and dinner with nods to the beloved fairy tale. Centerpieces were intricate trees with orchids hanging from the branches, creating an ethereal weeping willow effect. Upon closer look, tiny wooden Pinocchio ornaments dangled from the leaves. As the last performance of the 2018/2019 season, this was a most whimsical sendoff until we resume our visits to the ballet this fall.
