D e s i g n e r Meredith Ellis h a s b r o u g h t her fresh and layered look to Houston: The third outpost of her design showroom, James — a longtime Austin favorite — opens early this month in a 2,000-square- foot space in Decorative Center Houston on Woodway. James corrals many of the special collections of hand-blocked fabrics and wallpaper, lighting, rugs, and furniture that have been a staple of Ellis' own design business for 20 years. "It's all my favorites — the ones I used to have to go to L.A. or New York to get," says Ellis, who launched James in Austin in 2015 with her husband, Hunter Ellis, and business partner Lisa Womack.(A Dallas location opened in 2017.) Look for charming textiles and wallpapers from Sister Parish, HOME JAMES A MUCH-LOVED AUSTIN SHOWROOM MAKES ITS HOUSTON DEBUT. Kathryn Ireland, Carolina Irving, Rebecca Atwood, and Lisa Fine, along with James' newest addition, John Robshaw Textiles. This month, James debuts an exclusive collection of handmade Indian dhurries created in collaboration with Dubai-based rug company From Jaipur With Love. Along with accessories, James carries lighting and planters from Coleen & Company, a newly expanded collection of Bunny Williams Home, and rugs from Elson & Company. Ellis continues to add custom furniture to the mix, including a linen-wrapped coffee table with leather insert. She honed her maximal layered style while working for designers Bunny Williams, Thomas Beeton, and Michael S. Smith in New York and L.A. The showroom's vignettes make it easy for designers and their clients to picture how fabrics and wallpapers will look at home, and a smattering of fine antiques elevate it all.
