76 S chumacher continues to liven up interiors with collaborations: the fi rst was with Paul Poiret in 1930. The latest collection is a wild, raucous ride through the eyes of fashion house Libertine's co-founder/designer Johnson Hartig. Schumacher creative director Dara Caponigro fi rst met Hartig when he was featured on the cover of Domino magazine, where she served as style director. When Caponigro liaised with Hartig years later (when she was creative director of Schumacher) to include his home in her book The Authentics: A Lush Dive into the Substance of Style (2017), the idea for a Schumacher collaboration was born. Caponigro says Hartig's rule-breaking sensibility has always intrigued her: "It's full of exuberance but very sophisticated at the same time, so it aligns amazingly well with Schumacher's DNA. And he's an absolute original, who, in addition to being a trailblazing fashion designer, also has an uncanny understanding of decorating, which makes his designs for Schumacher both forward thinking and usable." L.A.-based Hartig founded Libertine in 2001 with ground-breaking embellishments emblazoned across his clothing; graphic illuminations, screen- printing, and crystal/embroidery follies are all Libertine trademarks. Delving into this rich history, Hartig's collection for Schumacher includes statement- making warp prints, velvets, wallpapers, and trims. Standouts include the luxe Johkang tiger velvet, vivid Magical Ming Dragon, and Modern toile where celestial, pastoral, and mythical forces collide. A cheeky safety-pin trim is also part of the lineup. In a fi rst for Schumacher, the company has translated its most-loved patterns onto dinnerware and home accessories in a recently released collaboration with Williams Sonoma and Williams Sonoma Home. The gang's all here: Signature ikats, Chiang Mai and Bixi Dragon, Chinois Fret, and Scallop Filigree are splashed across dinner plates and ginger jars.
