20 I n early February, Macy's made headlines announcing the debut of a top-secret new store: Market by Macy's, a smaller-footprint lifestyle boutique that mixes classic brands such as Ralph Lauren with chic direct- to-consumer labels including APL and Tucker, local designers like Texas Standard, and cult-following beauty finds such as Vintner's Daughter and Vapour. Hundreds gathered to celebrate its arrival in Southlake Town Square, joining Macy's chairman and CEO Jeff Gennette and brand experience officer Rachel Shechtman (both in from New York) for cocktails and a private look at the new concept. The 20,000-square-foot space was packed with guests looking over everything from the new Getchell's Apothecary beauty shop to the cafe space, aptly named Herald after Macy's historic Herald Square flagship, and designed by Dallas design firm Swoon the Studio. The crowd was a marvelous mix of collaborators with local artists Katie Murray and Will Heron, who created murals for the space; Courtney Goldberg of Urban Spikes, who designed custom glitter-sand succulent arrangements; and former food critic turned food consultant Leslie Brenner, who helped create Herald. Also in town from New York were Adam Glassman, creative director of O, The Oprah Magazine, and author and stylist Stacy London. Retail innovators including The Conservatory founder Brian Bolke and Neighborhood Goods founder Matt Alexander also joined.
