Daytime Dates From top chefs to tastemakers, style swans to silver cups: A quadrant of perfect luncheons equals TACA Silver Cup Award Luncheon PHOTOGRAPHY DANA DRIENSKY Ceron at TACA Silver Cup Lynn McBee at TACA Silver Cup Sarah Perot at TACA Silver Cup Lee Cullum at TACA Silver Cup Rebecca Young at TACA Silver Cup There are many reasons why TACA's Silver Cup Luncheon at the Hilton Anatole is one of the best-attended events all season: Its moderator, Lee Cullum — playfully nicknamed "No-Notes Cullum" by John Eagle — is a witty public speaker; the live musical performances that ensue during lunch are top-notch (pianist Hando Nahkur brought the crowd to its feet); and this year's Silver Cup honorees are the beloved Todd Caroline Rose Hunt and Frank Risch. Cullum summed up the Fiscus at TACA mood in the Hilton Anatole that afternoon when she said, Silver Cup "A friend once told me that listening changes chemistry." When Hunt accepted her award, the entire ballroom quieted at the chance to hear the distinguished grande dame speak: "I consider myself blessed for many reasons," she began. "And one is because I enjoy the performing arts." TACA's brightest in attendance included: chairmen Suzanne and David Droese, plus Rebecca Young, Bill Bogart, Mike Rawlings, Sarah Perot, Andy Teller, Ginger Reeder, and David Stern. Her daughter is an author and editor at large for Southern Living. No surprise that the motherdaughter duo of Myrna Schlegel and Kim Whitman received Texas Women's University's top prize for women who continuously improve quality of life in Dallas: the Virginia Chandler Dykes Leadership Award. TWU chancellor and president Ann Stuart did the honors, saluting the ladies with an elegant luncheon at the Belo Mansion & Pavilion. Of course, when one's Rolodex is as sizeable as Schlegel's and Whitman's combined, filling a ballroom for lunch is a snap. Who was there? Award namesake Virginia Chandler Dykes; members of the Schlegel family including Bob Schlegel, Justin Whitman, Kari Kloewer, and Kirby Schlegel; and guests Sara Martineau, Ruth Buzzi, Kent Perkins, and Jan Miller. As Soup's On chef chairman, he mixed party ingredients: Luscher compiled a menu of cooks — from the Mansion's Bruno Davaillon to Komali and Salum's Abraham Salum — to each whip up consommés for guests of the Stewpot Alliance Luncheon. The main course was commentary by New York Times bestselling author Jeannette Walls. She spoke about her memoir, The Glass Castle, to an audience that included chairman Tonya Meier, honorary chairmen Sally and Tom Dunning, and guests Gary Cogill, Hayley Hamilton, and Cheryl Henry. The retail luminary and his Crescent Court emporium have long supported The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Saint Valentine's Day Luncheon, this year tapping designer Chadwick Bell to star on the catwalk at the Hilton Anatole. Brock also sent hundreds of SK staples (Carolina Herrera, Brunello Cucinelli and Lanvin) down the runway. The result? Chairmen Kristina Whitcomb, Angela Nash, and Bunny Cotton, plus Kristi Sherrill Hoyl, Cara French, and Nancy Gopez eyeing Korshak's spring collections.
