IF YOU SEE HIM AND HAVE SOME NEWS, BE SURE TO SHARE. Your ever-buzzy PaperCity bee has lots to report this month. He's got the sweet scoop on what's premiering in Dallas and what's happening at our favorite haunts as we start 2023. If you see him and have some news, be sure to share. Retail: Ladies who lunch, rejoice. Forty Five Ten has created a luxury-label boutique within its luxury-label boutique for Mark Cross. Creative director Rebeca Mendoza was recently in town for the newly launched space adjacent to the valet entrance. The New Orleans-born designer was raised in Mexico City and moved to NYC in 2001 to work with Proenza Schouler, J. Mendel, and Calvin Klein (during the Raf years). Her designs have held true to the legacy of Mark Cross, but she's also brought some younger verve (who doesn't love a bag with a detachable strap adorned with candy- colored plumage). The interior of the space echoes the elements that inspired the new collection: burled wood, concrete, and silver metallic pedestals. The Rear Window bag in grape feather is an exclusive, and you can create a custom bag via the Made to Order program … Shinola Detroit, which has an outpost in NorthPark Center, has an exciting premiere for 2023: the newest edition of the Monster GMT wrist watch. Now in dark olive green, it was first developed for commercial airline pilots in the 1950s and features a fourth hand that rotates once every 24 hours, so you can check against the stainless-steel bezel marks to track time in multiple time zones. A sapphire crystal case back window reveals the complex inner workings of the movement inside … Also, we were thoroughly intrigued to hear of Grange Hall's Floral Society program. The hallowed apothecary provides you with monthly delivery of a featured flower in one of their wondrous arrangements. Yes, we want to be that girl. Sign us up … Sports: You might be seeing this and thinking: Sports? Well, don't worry; this will likely be a once-a-year tradition. But we all 0BESSSIONS. DECORATION. SALIENT FACTS. love tennis — the celebrity athletes and the outfits both on and off the courts. The Dallas Open is scheduled for February 4 through 12 at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex at Southern Methodist University. Venus Williams plays in the inaugural Women's Tennis Classic Showcase (part of the Dallas Open) against No. 14 ranked Danielle Collins on Saturday, February 4. Social: While there are no significant events to mention in January, it's time to slip on your favorite Dior kitten heels once February kicks in. The month starts out strong with The Birthday Party Project on Saturday, February 4. This beloved bash raises funds for children experiencing homelessness (more than 2.5 million children live in shelters in the U.S.) through the magic of a birthday celebration. The event itself turns 11 this year … Here's one we always look forward to: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Saint Valentine's Day Luncheon & Fashion Show occurs on Monday, February 13, at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. Co-chairs Katy Bock and Sunie Solomon and advisory chairs Nancy Gopez, Maggie Kipp, and Melinda Knowles welcome guests for another lively champagne reception, fashion show, and seated lunch … Finally, at a recent Carolina Herrera dinner with Wes Gordon to support the Dallas Museum of Art's Art Ball, co-chairs Leigh Anne Clark and Bela Cooley announced the ball's theme: Influence. The eagerly anticipated event takes place Saturday, April 15. (BTW, fellow guest Nancy Rogers assured everyone that it's not Tax Day this year.) Billy Fong H op Along: Any opening with the charismatic Hunt Slonem is an occasion. Calendar Saturday, January 14, 4:30 to 7:30 pm, when the designer darling, preservationist, and prolific museum-collected painter comes to town for an exhibit at Laura Rathe Fine Art, accompanied by a talk and signing of his latest volume, Butterflies (G Editions, $200). Per the show's title, this is the "Year of the Rabbit" in the Chinese zodiac — as was 1951, the year of Slonem's birth. Expect classic canvases focused on his signature bunnies, as well as a menagerie of vibrant birds and butterflies (January 14 – February 11). Lubbock Brethren: Call it a survey, call it a retrospective. "The Wheeler Brothers — Actual Scenes/Genuine Characters II" arrives at The MAC fresh from its critically praised Houston debut at Deborah Colton Gallery. The decades-spanning exhibition presents a new take on the work of West Texas collaborators Jeff and Bryan Wheeler, brothers who birthed the art scene in Lubbock with their mythic happenings, dubbed Ulterior Motifs. The Wheelers' paintings, works on paper, and ceramics skewer Texas tall tales and fables while examining what it means to live in a surreal place far from art-making capitals. Expect a deft melding of insider observation informed by wry humor, painted in a flat, neo-Pop style, where art history and life on the High Plains of West Texas collide (January 14 - February 11). Play Time: Meanwhile, back at the Nasher Sculpture Center, catch the final weeks of the wildly inventive Matthew Ronay solo, which can be described by one word: droll (through January 15) … Resolve in '23 to seek out fresh destinations, starting with Black-owned art spaces Daisha Board Gallery and Pencil on Paper Gallery. The former showcases Texas Surrealist William Toliver in "After D a r k " ( t h o u g h January 14), while the latter presents solos for Dallas talents Victoria Brill and Maria H a a g ( J a n u a r y 7 – F e b r u a r y 18). Stay tuned. Catherine D. Anspon Art Notes Hunt Slonem's Field of Dreams Huffle, 2022, at Laura Rathe Fine Art 38
