50 C o m i n g o f f b e a u c o u p accolades for her exuberant design for the new Printemps New York, Parisian designer Laura Gonzalez debuts a collection for Schumacher with a richly layered, irresistibly joyful range alive with global influences. Known for opulent, color-drenched interiors and pattern play, she draws inspiration from India for many of the eight designs. Roman Reverie began with a silk scarf her mother once brought home from India, its motifs reimagined in a stylized rhythmic pattern. Bombay Rainbow, a small-scale print on linen, channels the vitality of traditional Indian block prints, while Jaipur Fantaisie — the most sumptuous of the group — is a woven floral with scrolling leaves and a softly quilted texture. For Gonzalez, the collection crowns an already prolific career spanning furniture and object design, as well as interiors for Cartier boutiques, the chic Casa Monti in Rome and Hotel Hana in Paris, and her first U.S. showroom in NYC.
