Prairie Paris on the 88 S am Malone, past fixture of KRBE's The Sam Malone Show, served as emcee, while Johnny "Bravo" Holloway showed off his livestock-show -worthy rapid-fire skills as auctioneer. The historical highlight of the live auction was an engraved ceremonial axe presented to Davy Crockett in 1834. The high bidder was Mike Cavender (who, according to local poker-table talk, plans to open a museum in Round Top). The most furious bidding, however, was for a command performance by local band Black Cat Choir, which topped out at $110,000.
