P re-opening night was defined by two tony events — the first, a dinner hosted by Anne and Steve Stodghill and Sheridan and Bryan Reeder that also celebrated the inaugural Dallas Art Prize. This year's recipient, Massachusetts-based painter John McAllister of the lyrical, nature- suffused canvases, was awarded $20,000 in recognition of his significant contribution to the cultural and intellectual landscape of contemporary art. You'll find works by this UT BFA grad in major collections including the Hammer Museum in L.A. and the Rubell Museum in Miami; he is represented by James Fuentes Gallery, New York and L.A., which brought him to the fair. Late night saw cocktails and a dance party at The Conservatory in Highland Park Village, where proprietor Brian Bolke and co- hosts Carolina Alvarez-Mathies of Galeria OMR in Mexico City and Sarah Calodney of Calodney Advisory welcomed the gallerists and artists who had descended upon Dallas, as well as a lively assortment of our usual local art denizens. DJ Lucy Wrubel was in her usual spot behind the turntables with a slew of fashionable types, but perhaps the star was Lady Bug, the rescue pup that's the newest member of the Bolke-Halum household, who's likely to be on every guest list. Later still, our motley crew made our way upstairs for a nightcap at Park House — but who was there and what was discussed is hush-hush.
