Linden Wilson H eather Wiese-Alexander has had quite the successful journey with Bell'Invito stationers, which combines the art of letterpress and engraving with a fresh take on design. New is Digital Bespoke, an online room that allows clientele to custom- design correspondence, wedding invitations, baby announcements, coasters, menus and business stationery, letter-pressed, engraved or foil stamped by Bell'Invito. A lover of all things old world, Heather came across a few family heirlooms — 19th-century printing presses, to be exact — and she knew she'd found her calling. bellinvito.com. Jane Rozelle Bell of the Ball LYFE Kitchen, 8315 Westchester Dr. in Preston Center, 214.361.5933; 3699 McKinney Ave. in West Village, 214.526.5933, lyfekitchen.com LYFE Kitchen wants you to love the way you feel after leaving their restaurant. Instead of rich foods high in fat and calories, LYFE — which stands for "Love Your Food Everyday" — offers decadent items such as creamy chicken penne and hearty burgers for less than 600 calories and 1,000 mg of sodium a dish. The California-based eatery opened Plano and Preston Center locations in June, and recently debuted their third restaurant, in West Village. A wall of fresh, leafy herbs welcomes guests, hinting at the refreshing approach to organic, sustainable locally sourced food: You won't see a deep fryer, butter or cream anywhere in the kitchen. Order at the walk-up counter and your meal is delivered to your table in a speedy 10 minutes. Oprah's former personal chef, Art Smith, created the menu, and Art's unfried chicken with roasted Brussels sprouts and butternut squash is one of their most popular dishes. You'll also find edamame hummus with crudite, seasonal flatbreads such as the spicy roasted eggplant and salads including the farmer's market and a kale Caesar. The chicken, mushroom and spinach penne uses cashew cream sauce, while a grass-fed steak with potatoes weighs in at just 545 calories. Food allergies and sensitivities are taken seriously here; every item notes if nuts, soy, dairy or eggs are present and the staff encourages questions about ingredients. Besides the regular menu, a gluten-free version offers flatbreads and a signature organic grass-fed burger on a gluten-free bun. The vegan menu replaces meat with "garden" plant-based patties and strips and dairy items with nut butters. Instead of sodas (high-fructose corn syrup was also eliminated everywhere, from beverages to ketchup), cucumber mint and hibiscus beet and ginger mint chia waters are vibrant refreshers with as few as 70 calories. Chocolate and banana budinos, made with coconut milk and chia seeds, are satisfying desserts. Roni Proter Loving LYFE We love the new and shiny, but off-beat, one-off shops are what steal our hearts. Owners Javier Garcia del Moral and Paco Vique have poured all the key ingredients into The Wild Detectives, a new coffee shop, pub and bookshop tucked away in the Bishop Arts District of Oak Cliff. Up the cobblestone walkway to the orange-painted bungalow and behind big green doors, a charming atmosphere permeates this cool hideaway, which still feels like home despite its recent transformation. As coffee beans roast and rattle, Spanish wine is poured, and pastries and cheese plates are parceled out, relax with a book of new bestsellers and poetry — a vetted list of titles, just like the playlist ranging from Dylan to the Pixies that whispers in the background. Adding to the vibe are twinkling lights and picnic tables on the back patio. 314 W. 8th St., 214.942.0108, thewilddetectives.com. Jane Rozelle Wild About Books
