in this ISSUE DECEMBER 2014 | STYLE | FASHION | SOCIAL 4, 6, 8 POP. CULTURE. GOSSIP. P osing with Posen, with F.G.I. at F.I.G.! The annual Night of Stars hosted by nonprofit Fashion Group International of Dallas (which raises funds for fashion scholarships) at Fashion Industry Gallery was stylishly sleek and quite the honorable affair. But, as I pen this, the event just happened … so stay tuned for party coverage in January. With a marathon two months of events that were exhilarating, exhausting and so much fun, this issue celebrates the tenure of Todd Events, the prosperity of TWO x TWO for AIDS & Art and the transformation of Cattle Baron's Ball. And, of course, 'tis the season for gift giving, and our editors have been busy creating lists and checking them twice — quite literally — to showcase a bewitching jewelry story, Remains of the Night, and our luxuriant gift guide that beholds treasure galore to inspire you. Also, read our chats with jewelry stars Ivanka Trump and Pamela Love. For December, make a note of these festive soirées. Join Tootsies Wednesday, December 3, at 6:30 pm, for Celebrate the Season with jewelry designer Sheryl Lowe (actor Rob Lowe's wife) and Dallas furrier Kelli Kouri; rsvp events@tootsies.com. Heritage Auctions hosts a luxury holiday auction of fine jewelry and European art Thursday, December 4, 6 to 8 pm; rsvp@ ha.com. On Friday, December 5, 5:30 to 7:30 pm, join The M.A.C. for a festive Blue Yule holiday party and ornament shopping. And, of course, Crystal Charity Ball's gala, Jewels of the Garden, takes place Saturday, December 6, 7 pm, at the Hilton Anatole. For family fun, visit the Dallas Arboretum for their $2 million exhibition "12 Days of Christmas," elaborately designed in a Victorian-era theme with whimsical 25- foot-tall gazebos; in the evenings, enjoy live carolers amidst the beautifully illuminated gardens, now through January 4. How divine! Wishing you all a peaceful, merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah and holiday season with your family and loved ones. We at PaperCity are definitely in the spirit and have so many things to be thankful for this year. I, for one, have just returned from maternity leave and am now a mother of two. I was blessed with another little girl this fall and am in love all over again. I jumped right back into work after the baby. Our team spent a week in New York City visiting advertisers — Hermès, Cartier, Chanel, Tom Ford, Versace, Akris, Kara Ross and Diane von Furstenberg — which proved to be a hugely successful trip. New to our pages the last few months are Mulberry, John Varvatos and Tourbillon. We always come back from these adventures in high spirits after being told what we know is true: PaperCity is a beautiful print publication that's proven to work for advertisers. This visit was especially successful as our clients got a sneak peek at the new website. Yes, the new website. It is finally here and is everything we hoped it would be — stylish, smart and equally engaging. It's now live, and if you have not seen it, check it out at papercitymag.com. And, while your social calendar is reaching maximum capacity this holiday season, do squeeze in some time for shopping. Stumped on where to go? Just flip through this issue and peruse page after page of gorgeous jewelry. You'll definitely find some inspiration — and who has ever complained about receiving diamonds? With 2014 coming to a close, we want to thank each and every reader and advertiser. We're looking forward to exciting things in 2015 as we bring you more of what we do best. Cheers! Monica Bickers Publisher monica@papercitymag.com S moking Haute … Masquerade … Dramatically Different … Those are just a few of the themes that have blazed the trail toward the landmark 25th anniversary gala for the Dallas chapter of Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA.) One of the most anticipated events of the spring season, this legendary event also serves as the signature soirée for DIFFA, a nonprofit that raises funds for organizations providing education, treatment and direct care services for people living with or impacted by HIV/AIDS. Spearheaded by board chair Clint Bradley, the Dallas chapter has granted more than $6 million to date to such organizations within the North Texas community. Helping spread the word are the Style Council Ambassadors, as well as the Legends of Style — influencers throughout the community representing DIFFA/Dallas for the 2014-2015 season. Recently announced at Neiman Marcus Downtown, the impressive lineup includes DIFFA/Dallas diplomats Jenn Clark, Ralph Randall, Debra Nelson, Norma Johnson, Patrick Ware, Scott Kehn, Shayne Robinson, Jody Stein and Jenna Alexander and Legends of Style (appointed "ambassadors" in years past) Simona Beal, Don Gaiser, Rebecca Hallam, Gillian Breidenbach, Joe Pacetti, David Kiger, and Matrice Kirk. For the silver anniversary, DIFFA's appropriately themed gala, House of DIFFA: 25 Years, is set for Saturday, March 7, at the Omni Hotel downtown, chaired by Chuck Steelman. The night promises silent and live auctions, a seated dinner and, of course, a feast of fashion: a runway show spotlighting local and nationally renowned designers, produced by the lovely Rhonda Sargent Chambers. Tickets from $375; tables from $3,500, through diffadallas.org. Jane Rozelle Hot Ticket: DIFFA AT 25 Hayden Lasher is hyper- focused, just like her great-uncle, Henri Bendel II, who founded the iconic Belgian Shoes store in NYC in 1955. And she knows design and retail, inherited most likely from another great-great-grand-uncle, also named Henri Bendel, who founded the fabled NY store of the same name. Lasher designs one thing: a handbag to coordinate with the iconic Belgian loafer that mirrors the shoe's handcrafted workmanship, classic lines and, of course, the eponymous jaunty little bow that appears on the vamp of every pair of Belgian Shoes (tied by hand by the one Belgium woman qualified to do this). Twenty-eight-year-old Lasher grew up in Houston in Tanglewood, studied at Parsons in NYC and Paris, and has worked in the accessories, shoe and handbag arenas at Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors and Marc by Marc Jacobs. When she decided to go it alone, she approached Belgian Shoes about creating a handbag and launched Hayden Lasher for Belgian Shoes in May 2014. "The idea isn't to be an overnight sensation," she says. "I want to be recognized in the same tradition of Belgian Shoes, for creating something meaningful that will last."The already classic top-handle bag is handmade in New York and comes in five color ways. $1,500, at the Belgian Shoes store in New York and haydenlasher.com. Holly Moore PUT A BOW ON IT T winkling lights and pretty decorations are fabulous, but nothing is more instantly welcoming than a spectacular wreath on one's front door during the holidays. Avant Garden's custom wreaths, created by in- house designer Raegan McKinney, are gorgeous amalgamations of flowers, greenery and ornaments. It's easy to get lost in this rustic and elegant wreath of Queen Anne's lace and bay leaves with silver leaf, blueberry viburnum, pheasant feathers, faux succulent plants, wasps' nests, cactus skeleton logs and sand-blasted manzanita twigs. $500 to $1,000 each, at Avant Garden; avantgarden.com.
