SILVER STANDARD: THE DMA'S SHINING SUPPER BY JANE ROZELLE. PHOTOGRAPHY TAMYTHA CAMERON SMITH. E ach year, the Silver Supper is one of the most highly anticipated events at the Dallas Museum of Art. It began back in 1987, when the Hoblitzelle Foundation bestowed upon the museum a wealth of English and Irish silver amassed by genteel collectors Esther and Karl Hoblitzelle, who were as equally renowned for entertaining as for their treasures. Upon receiving this extraordinary gift, the DMA hosted a dinner modeled around the couple's legendary banquets — a tradition that continues to this day. This 23rd annual feast, with more than 170 patrons in attendance, raised more than $300,000 for the DMA's Decorative Arts Acquisition Endowment Fund. Eugene McDermott Director Maxwell Anderson and wife Jacqueline, as well as the Margot B. Perot Senior Curator of Decorative Arts and Design Kevin W. Tucker greeted guests, who marveled at the centerpiece of the reception: the Huntingdon wine cistern, a gleaming representative of the Hoblitzelle collection. Event designer Sara Fay Egan of Jackson Durham transformed the atrium into an 18th-century alfresco garden dripping with ivy and twinkling lights, the tablescapes festooned with pale pink and orange roses tucked into mint julep cups. The supper itself was a feast of tempura squash blossoms and braised short rib topped off with apple tartlets, accompanied by tales of the event's illustrious history. Glistening: Co-chairmen Carrie Becker and Lela Rose; and Peggy and Carl Sewell, Mary McDermott Cook, Nancy Dedman, Bentley Tibbs, James Forsyth, Tamara Wootton Forsyth, Jennifer Karol, Robert Stein, and Kirk and Jane Rimer. PHOTOGRAPHY MATT SHELLEY, JOHN HUDSON, DANA DRIENSKY. TAKE ME OUT TO THE DANCEHALL Country legend Pat Green brought his A-game to Eddie Deen's Ranch to Wipe out Kid's Cancer. Chairs Tracy Lange, Alison Malone, and Mersina Stubbs mounted a Texas-sized celebration chock- full of cowboy fare, spirits from Rahr & Sons and a live auction of such covetables as a weekend stay at The Cloister in Sea Island and a signed guitar from Mr. Green himself, who belted out favorites "Southbound 35" and "Songs About Texas." Adding to the sparkle, Tiffany & Co. presented the nonprofit with a $25,000 check in the name of honorary co-chairs Carol and Frank Riddick. Wiping out: honorary co-chairs Marla and Van Shaw, Kristin and Aaron Ortega, Nellie Sciutto, and Clay and Lisa Cooley. A HOPEFUL EVENING Fringe, feathers and fedoras filled the space at the Westin Stonebriar where Hope's Door celebrated with An Evening of Hope. Chairman Stephanie Mattison welcomed guests to the Gatsby- themed affair, which raised an impressive $400,000. Honorary chair Glenn Beck's moving testimony on domestic violence drew a standing ovation, then it was time to celebrate the cause — with a dance party. Local band Limelight set the mood with covers from the Temptations, Pharrell Williams and the Four Seasons. Party patrons: Sheri Deterling, Heather Holler, Kimberly and Steve Schott, and Melissa Randle. FEELING BIG Black ties and big hearts took over the Omni Dallas Hotel for the Big Black Tie Ball benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters. The evening, chaired by Lori Hoff, lived up to its (big) name, kicking off with a musical surprise from The Little Singers (a group composed of Littles from the nonprofit's program) — the room was abuzz after their spirited cover of Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror." An impressive $362,000 was raised for the cause, which means 700 children can be placed with a mentor. Applauding: Pam Dodson, Larry Barker, Katherine Musick, Alex Wales, and Brittani Hall.
