Inspired by boots from Cairo's Old Bazaar, the classic Desert Boot, designed by Nathan Clark 65 years ago, became the statement shoe for off-duty British army officers. To celebrate this iconic boot, the 190-year-old British shoemaker brand Clarks has launched an artist-initiative limited- edition Desert Boot collection, Clarks: ReBooted. Dallas' favorite international curator, Filippo Tattoni-Marcozzi (formerly of The Goss- Michael Foundation) worked with Clarks' creative team and 14 artists and designers to create the collection. "Shoes are the one thing that always fit me, so I could not say no to helping to design 14 versions of one of my favorite classics: Clarks' Desert Boot." The collection, along with one-of- a-kind works of art T wice a year, I ponder my past life as a junior designer in London — sketching, creating a womenswear collection and designing embroideries with Atelier Lesage in Paris. And, as Paris Fashion Week culminates with Fall 2015 ready-to- wear collections at the beginning of the month, I reflect upon how full circle my career has flourished, understanding the nuances of designer vs. consumer, and respecting the creativity that transcends down the runway, transforms for retail, and how that story is told and styled through media. To wit, this spring fashion issue is a refreshing kickoff into the new season, with our interpretation of spring style: "Le Freak, C'est Chic," inspired by a bohemian, glam-rock vibe meets Ashbury Heights in San Fran, a little '70s, with a dash of '90s. Read our chat with emerging designer Levi Palmer, a true Texan at heart who resides in London and, at the other end of the fashion spectrum, catch up on the philanthropic endeavors of Donna Karan. With Dallas Art Fair just around the corner, the hottest ticket in town is undeniably Dalpass — read Hot Ticket for the rundown on events for Dallas Arts Week. Pique your art interest with our chat with revered artist David Salle, one of two to exhibit at the Dallas Contemporary — opening during Arts Week. But what does one wear to the Dallas Art Fair opening, MTV Re:Define and the DMA's 50th Anniversary of Art Ball? Peruse our style page, "Fashion Exhibitionists." But before we don our artful attire in April, let's recap PC-sponsored events in March. DIFFA celebrates its 25th Anniversary March 7; double up with Ronald McDonald House of Dallas for "Under the Moonlight" fund-raiser March 21, and with their Young Friends group for "A Night with Reckless Kelly" on March 26; and end the month with Heroes for Children, celebrating its 10th anniversary on March 28. LUC COIFFAIT It's a MAN'S World Art: David Salle at Dallas Contemporary P hotographer Mario Testino's newest tome, Sir, opens a discourse on masculinity via more than 300 images of the world's most captivating men, including Colin Firth, George Clooney, Mick Jagger and David Beckham. The 456-page book — Testino's biggest volume to date — spans three decades and illustrates the evolution of a man's style, image and societal roles. Some of the images are provocative, others demure, but all are delicious. Best of all, some have never been seen before. Only 1,000 copies have been printed; each is signed, wrapped in Japanese cloth and packed in a shiny metallic slipcase. $700, at the Taschen Library in The Joule Hotel, taschen.com. Linden Wilson Jo Malone London pays tribute to five defining eras of English history with the Rock the Ages limited-edition fragrances, available this month. Evoking the mystery and opulence of its namesake era, Tudor Rose & Amber melds clove, ginger and rose absolute, while the dramatic Pomegranate Noir harkens back to the Victorian age with Casablanca lily, pink pepper, guaiac wood and pomegranate. The soft Lily of the Valley & Ivy (Georgian), magnetic Geranium & Verbena (Edwardian) and spicy Birch & Black Pepper (present day) round out the collection. $65 each, at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom. Linden Wilson BRITISH ROCK by each artist, will tour the world, commencing at Design Shanghai in March, Salone del Mobile in Milan in April, Frieze New York in May and CitizenM Hotel Bankside through September and October, culminating at Frieze London with a special fund-raiser auction in October.
