PHOTOGRAPHY MARITZA RODRIGUEZ. E lle Decor editor in chief Michael Boodro decamped from snowy New York to Houston for a signing of his new tome, Elle Decor: The Height of Style: Inspiring Ideas from the World's Chicest Rooms (Abrams), at The Lobby, the glam HQ for Greenwood King. Designers and design fans listened intently as Boodro spoke about what makes a room worthy of the magazine's pages, while photographs of some of the greatest rooms through the ages flashed on screen. What catches the editor's eye and endures? A cohesive point of view is key, as is a certain je ne sais quoi charm factor. A fearless use of color, good lighting, a touch of whimsy, plenty of books, small architectural refinements and a dog all make for the Elle Decor halls of fame. The affable Boodro then toiled away signing books, until chic Greenwood King principals Julie Greenwood and Linda King, whisked him off to an intime dinner at comfy Ouisie's restaurant. Styling at the signing: Becky Birdwell, in from NY, Elaine Ellender, Vickie Staff, Rusty Arena, Lee Wilde, Aaron Rambo, Sara Pope-Eliason, Ceron, Matt Johns, Meg Lonergan, Lindsey Looke, and Megan Hotze. A contingent then repaired to dinner, where designer Randy Powers, de Menil biographer William Middleton, and Elle Decor publisher Barbara Friedmann joined Boodro to unwind. ANSPON REPORTS. PHOTOGRAPHY CHRIS BROWN. CAROL PIPER RUGS HOSTS GLASSTIRE'S RAUCOUS TEXAS AUCTION. A very cool collecting op is staged annually at Carol Piper Rugs, in support of the nationally acclaimed arts website Glasstire, founded by Rainey Knudson. This year's chairs, collectors Jereann Chaney and Eleanor and Dan Gilbane, presided over yet another hotly contested Texas Auction, with The Art Guys (aka Michael Galbreth and Jack Massing) stepping in to wield the gavel as convincing and convivial auctioneers. Vying for artworks — such as Betsabeé Romero's gum- encrusted rubber tire, which addresses border issues, and went to lucky collectors Mary and Tom Lile — was a plucky contingent including Leslie and Mark Hull (high bidders on the Kent Dorn painting titled The End), Julie Kinzelman and Christopher Tribble, Leigh and Reggie Smith (who went home with a nifty Art Guy collage addressing the CAMH's door problem), Adam Adams (nabbing the campy Camp Bosworth gilded security camera), Katharine Barthelme, and a surprise guest, artist John Alexander. Fittingly, Kent Dorn's The End, 2012, was the final lot.
