Omni Hotel Dallas 555 S. Lamar Street Dallas, TX 75202 Dress: Red Event Chair: Chelby Sanders Senior Vice President CBRE, Brokerage Services Group Keynote Speaker: Lori Greiner Chelby Sanders It has truly been an honor to chair the 2016 Dallas Go Red For Women campaign. I chose to take a stand because of how important women are to their families and yet women are the last ones to take care of themselves. The American Heart Association (AHA) began the Go Red For Women movement in 2004 to help bring an end to heart disease and stroke in women. Over the past twelve years, the lives of many Dallas residents have been improved as a result of the mission of Go Red For Women. We have made a powerful impact on an entire generation of women which include mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, the list goes on and on. Today, nearly 330 fewer women die from heart disease and stroke every single day. That is a 34% decrease since the beginning of the movement. We are proud of the advances in awareness that Go Red For Women has created, but we still have work to do. More women than men die each year from heart disease and stroke, and fewer women than men survive their first heart attack. 90% of women have one or more risk factors for heart disease or stroke and are not aware of it. Why? Women often do not know that symptoms of heart attack can be different in women versus men, and are often misunderstood – even by some physicians. Our goal is to change that statistic by empowering women with information and by encouraging women to know their numbers. Do you know that 80% of cardiovascular events can be prevented? They can. Through education and awareness of the symptoms and the numbers. Your support of Go Red For Women saves lives by funding critical research, empowering other women with information and sharing your story of "Why". Women who are involved with Go Red For Women live healthier lives. Nearly 90% have made at least one healthy behavior change, including weight loss, increased exercise and changes in diet. More than 40% have checked their cholesterol levels and one third of women involved with Go Red For Women have talked with their doctors about developing heart health plans. When you "Go Red," you are making a difference: Get Your Numbers: Ask your doctor to check your blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose. Own Your Lifestyle: Stop smoking, lose weight, be physically active and eat healthy. Raise Your Voice: Advocate for more women-related research and education. Educate Your Family: Make healthy food choices for you & your family. Teach your kids the importance of staying active. Donate: Show your support with a donation of time or money.
