E very spring, I get utterly restless. Call it wanderlust — an innate yearning to be elsewhere. Something stirs inside, and I am left with an insatiable appetite to be among the unfamiliar: to see new places, to converse with strangers, to open myself to the kind of stimuli and energy that flows only during times of travel. With that in mind, we've prepared an issue that's filled with inspiration for your next escape, including a story wherein we polled our city's most interesting jet-setters for a glimpse at their upcoming travel schedules. The story was a rather fun one to put together, as we found our dear Dallasites mixing things up for the season, traveling the world over, from New Zealand to Mykonos, to an Ashram in California and a villa in Empoli, Italy. I look forward to keeping my feet on the ground for at least a few weeks in May, as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra has packed the month with an explosive itinerary of multidisciplinary performances for its Soluna International Music & Arts Festival, presented by the Nancy A. Nasher and David J. Haemisegger Family (May 16 through June 5). As Soluna's exclusive media sponsor, PaperCity has anxiously awaited the festival's debut, with performances being held in nearly every artful venue in town. My list of must-sees includes the premiere of Rules of the Game (composed by Pharrell!) Tuesday, May 17, at Winspear Opera House; the Spring Celebration at Wyly Theater, May 20 through 22, featuring Dallas Black Dance Theatre performing late choreographer Bruce Wood's RED, a world premiere from DBDT II director Nycole Ray and a work choreographed by Bridget L. Moore and starring dancers from Sungkyunkwan University in Korea; and, of course, I can't miss pianist Conrad Tao's recital, among the remarkable exhibitions of Helmut Lang, Dan Colen and Paola Pivi at Dallas Contemporary Tuesday, May 31. For a full rundown of the month- long event, see Soluna's full program: It's a whopping 64 pages and elegantly inserted into this issue. Whether you are fleeing the city for fresh environs, or simply staying put, there's plenty on the horizon to satiate any desire for a change of scenery. In this special section, we present new spring and summer products from the showrooms as well as an insider's guide to the area.
