"I'M PRONE TO CHARM. I LIKE CHARMING INTERIORS. THEY ARE NOT FASHIONABLE NOW, BUT I'M A FAN." — Jerry Jeanmard I also like charming interiors. They are not fashionable now, but I'm a fan." Inside, graceful rooms deliver a polished, undecorated look — all hallmarks of the understated style Jeanmard honed at Wells. "Rooms should be personal," he says. "They shouldn't look like you backed a truck up to a showroom and delivered it to the house." This home is anything but that. Antique chests and tables — many from their travels — mix with time-honored custom sofas and chairs, which Jeanmard had re-covered for the new house. But Jeanmard's many collections are what give the house warmth and wit, including 17 chairs of various periods, styles, and sizes in the living room alone. There are child-size wicker chairs, antique bone-inlay chairs from India, a pair of Swedish chairs, French bergères, straw-wrapped Klismos chairs from David Sutherland, and a Frank Gehry cardboard chair, to name a few. Many have unusual feet, such as brass lions or hooves. "Chairs have a lot of personality," he says. Especially small ones. "I never met a little chair I didn't like." He collects what amuses him, such as tromp l'oeil ceramic vegetables and Clockwise from top: Custom slipper chairs covered in Classic Cloth striped linen from George Cameron Nash. Custom coffee table made from a fragment of marble. Faux bois garden stool from John Rosselli Antiques, New York. Jeanmard's collection of books includes tomes on interior design, architecture, gardens, fabrics, and textile patterns. A center shelf at right holds his collection of faux bois pitchers. Antique zebra block-print fragment from a circus poster from Brian Stringer Antiques. Primitive tiger painting. Primitive English stool. Painted Italian chair and vintage lithographs from a scrapbook. 69
