AND THE OSCAR GOES TO … 142 D allas women will always have a special place in their hearts — and wardrobes — for Oscar de la Renta. When the founder of the fashion house and sartorial pioneer of American fashion died in 2014, our city — and the fashion world at large — mourned his loss. Oscar himself was a regular on The Crystal Charity Ball circuit, having made his appearance on the Ten Best Dressed runway myriad times. This year, Oscar's legend lives on by way of Oscar de la Renta co-creative directors Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia — the positively darling duo, which took over design duties just last year. Theirs is a youthful energy, which has injected a spritely spirit into the already iconic label. Translation: For fall 2018, Kim and Garcia were praised for the effortless assemblage of floral prints, embellished tulle, and ultra-feminine silhouettes. Yes, the Texas style-setters were quick to snag looks from the collection, all of which will be sported as the Ten Best Dressed make their way down the runway during the annual fashion show and luncheon this month. The Ten Best Dressed Fashion Show and Luncheon celebrates its 45th anniversary this year — and, even after four decades, it still holds its place on the social calendar as the city's hottest fall ticket. (A word to the wise: If you're reading it now and expecting a seat, note that the event typically sells out by the end of spring.) To toast The Crystal Charity Ball and Ten Best Dressed Women of Dallas — a nominated bunch, named to the list not just for their sense of style, but more so for their active philanthropic duties and civic leadership — Kim and Garcia will come to town, fresh from New York Fashion Week, with their Resort 2018 collection in tow. As per tradition, Neiman Marcus and its team of event wizards will clear the Couture Salon, installing riser seating and a runway — and, of course, flashbulbs galore. We'll see you in the front row.
