68 BY REBECCA SHERMAN ART + DECORATION PROMEMORIA PERFETTO R o m e o S o z z i f o u n d e d I t a l y - based Promemoria furniture company in 1988, but his family has made cabinets since the 19th century on the shores of Lake Como, where they restored and repaired carriages for aristocracy. Since then, four generations of Sozzis have embraced their roots. After a five-year hiatus, Promemoria is back in Texas — and available at George Cameron Nash, who first met Marcello Alfredo Lucchetta, vice president of Promemoria USA, at the Dallas PaperCity Design Awards three years ago. Nash initiated a conversation, followed by lunch and lots of Prosecco at Bistro 31. Eventually, a deal was struck to bring Promemoria to Nash's showroom in Dallas. "Promemoria is like the finest hand-tailored suits from Kiton or Belvest — there's nothing better," Nash says. "It's time-honored Italian craftsman- ship with a contemporary point of view." Promemoria's entire line is hand- made to order. "We are still artisans," says Lucchetta. "We do not stock." Often, the furniture is in limited editions. "Our work is in the best houses in the world. That is really the only way to describe it." Tables and case goods are crafted from exotic woods such as Tuscan cypress and Macassar ebony, with leather and bronze elements. Seating is upholstered in silk, linen, and cashmere, with precise and exquisite stitching. The family business runs deep: Romeo Sozzi is principal designer, with sons Davide, Stefano and Paolo ingrained in the business. Nash has created a dedicated Promemoria gallery in the showroom with Cameron wallpaper that resembles horsehair; sable-stained oak floors; simple mats; and artwork by New York-based Jeffrey Terreson. Much of the collection has already arrived, with more to come mid-month. Look for Promemoria's new Indigo Tales collection, which debuted at the 2018 Salone del Mobile in Milan, marking the first time the company has exhibited.
