74 A s 10 design powerhouses descend on Dallas for Texas Design Week, most will have their books in hand. Some have new tomes launching In the early 1990s, Victoria Hagan ushered in a new era of soft modern design. Some 25 years later, her pared- down aesthetic is as vital as ever. Her elegantly restrained interiors, including her own breezy Nantucket home, are highlighted in her book Victoria Hagan: Dream Spaces (Rizzoli). Awarded Architectural Digest's AD 100 and Elle Decor 's Interior Design Hall of Fame, she lives in New York. At Wells Abbott Showroom, Dallas Design District, Thursday, October 25, 4 pm. AD100 designer Suzanne Kasler, based in Atlanta, is known for creating beautiful rooms with a traditional foundation, yet everything she touches has a sleek and contemporary feel. Her new book, Suzanne Kasler: Sophisticated Simplicity (Rizzoli), showcases previously unseen interiors, from oceanfront estates, country family homes, and city apartments. At Ambella Home, Dallas Design District, Monday, October 22, 6 pm. Dashing designer Ray Booth, a partner in the celebrated and poetic firm McAlpine (Nashville and NYC), is a master of modernism reflecting a sense of place and history. His projects have appeared in Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, and Veranda. His first book, Ray Booth: Evocative Interiors (Rizzoli), features projects around the U.S., including his own home in Nashville. Booth appears at Stark with Chad Stark and Mary Douglas Drysdale. At Stark Showroom, Dallas Design District, Monday, October 22, 4 pm. Chad Stark, scion of the Stark Carpet family, moderates a panel with Ray Booth and Mary Douglas Drysdale and discusses his own book, Decorating with Carpets: The Stark Tradition. He taps the extensive archive of Stark Carpet for design projects by Billy Baldwin, Dorothy Draper, Sister Parish, Albert Hadley, Mark Hampton, and Mario Buatta, as well as contemporary designers Anthony Baratta, Victoria Hagan, Katie Ridder, and Stephen Gambrel. At Stark showroom, Dallas Design District, Monday, October 22, 4 pm. The protégé of decorator, set design, and jewelry designer Tony Duquette, Hutton Wilkinson showcases the fabled folly Dawnridge, which was exuberantly decorated within an inch of its life by the late Duquette, in his new book, Tony Duquette's Dawnridge (Abrams). Hutton, who now runs the Tony Duquette company, purchased the home following Duquette's death in 1999. He has since breathed new life into the estate, broadening the property, adding houses of his own design, and incorporating remarkable objects designed and created by the Duquettes.
