By Lisa Collins Shaddock. Photography Jonathan Zizzo. E ven the most steadfast classicists would agree: From time to time, it's essential that one shake things up. For the annual Dallas PaperCity Design Awards with Dunhill Partners and Dallas Design District, the Design Awards cocktail event and awards ceremony had outgrown its previous party space in the Dallas Design District, and so was moved to the beautiful Joule hotel with pre-cocktails advantageously just across Main Street at Forty Five Ten. The result? A marvelous amalgamation of interiors, fashion, and a chic design contingent. It was a sight to behold as the Design Awards crowd quite literally stopped traffic, walking the short distance across the street to the Joule for the main event (if we could have rolled a red carpet across Main Street, we would have). After more cocktails and chatting, the ballroom doors opened for the awards presentation. Amid the flurry that is Texas Design Week, the awards are always a high point — a chance to appreciate and cele- brate the work of the Dallas design community. PaperCity co-founder and editor-in-chief Holly Moore made welcome remarks and engaged in an entertaining rapport with the ever-entertaining Bill Hutchinson of Dunhill Partners — our long-standing PaperCity Design Awards collaborator and the namesake for the Bill Hutchinson Award, which honors an individual, foundation, or company that has made an impact on the Dallas design community. This year's Bill Hutchinson Award was presented to Mark Marynick and Porter Fuqua in recognition of the work they have done to rejuvenate Casci Plaster, the 88-year-old artisanal plaster company they acquired last year.
