80 TWO NIGHTS T he West Alabama design corridor's Hollywood Square was the mise en scène for a riveting evening: a talk and exhibition with fashion and design author Dean Rhys-Morgan, hosted by the trifecta of Wells Abbott's Lauren Hudson, Ryan Reitmeyer of Retorra Rugs (who was off to India the next day on a buying trip), and Karen Pulaski of Tribute Goods. Living between London, L.A., and NYC, Rhys-Morgan flew in to speak and sign his new book, Jeremiah: Inspired Interiors (PowerHouse Books). The debonair transcontinental writer, a one-time protégé of Isabella Blow, spun tales of painter Jeremiah Goodman, with whom he worked on this lavish volume during the final decade of the artist's life. Elevating room illustration to high art, Goodman enjoyed unprecedented access for 70 years to some of the most exalted tastemakers of his time; his cinematic room portraits in watercolor and gouache captured the vitality of the grand salons, bedrooms, and libraries of Bill Blass, Elsa Peretti (who penned the book foreword), the Duchess of Windsor, Bruce Weber, Greta Garbo, Cecil Beaton, James Galanos, Carolina Herrera, Delphine and Reed Krakoff, and, perhaps most famously, Diana Vreeland's dramatic crimson garden-in-hell living room, designed by Billy Baldwin.
