Our annual Texas Design Week Dallas swirls to- gether the world-class showrooms of the Design District with the design world's top talent — a superstar roster of speakers and judges from all over the country, brought together for a week-long celebration of all things design. It's a heady cocktail that has us on a high for months to come — and the annual Dallas PaperCity Design Awards celebrating local design talent is the blue cheese olive on top. Held at the Joule Hotel, the Awards evening began with cocktails, with VIP guests finding a place to rest their drinks in the quite swanky Room & Board Lounge. Once the ballroom doors opened, the design throng made its way to the main event, where the winning entries would be announced. Texas Design Week speakers and Design Awards judges took their seats in the front row: David Kleinberg, Jeffery Bilhuber, Architectural Digest editor in chief Amy Astley, Pieter Estersohn, Chesie Breen, Lee Ledbetter, Lance Scott, Cathy Kincaid, Lisa Fine, Caleb Anderson, Oliver Furth, Penny Morrison, and Rizzoli senior editor Sandy Gilbert. This is a lot of personality in one room. And the two biggest personalities of them all — well, we gave them the mic: L.A. designer, media star, and the evening's master of ceremonies, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, and Bill Hutchinson of Dunhill Partners, owner of a large swath of the Dallas Design District, as well as the new Virgin Hotels. Hutchinson is a long-time sponsor of the Awards, and his semi-scandalous comedic routine is a mainstay of the event. This year he brought props. Bullard and Hutchinson share an ability to captivate a room — as well as a love for a festive jacket.
