THREE FOR THE ROAD DESIGNERS TOM SCHEERER, LISA FINE, AND PENNY MORRISON DISCUSS HOW TRAVEL INSPIRES AT JAMES SHOWROOM. BY LISA COLLINS SHADDOCK. PHOTOGRAPHY JONATHAN ZIZZO. 93 W ith pattern- on pattern v i g n e t t e s a n d r e a m after ream of alluring t e x t i l e s , James Showroom can provide as much inspiration as a trip around the world. During Texas Design Week Dallas, the delightful showroom — the passion project of designer Meredith Ellis and husband Hunter Ellis, who first opened James in Austin — was filled with buckets of fresh blooms and as many rows of seating that could fit for the sold-out evening. Rosé and other libations chilled in silver bowls as guests settled in for an illustrated talk with three luminaries: AD100 and Elle Decor A-List designer Tom Scheerer, whose enviable body of work includes the exclusive Lyford Cay Club in the Bahamas, which is pictured in his newest book, More Decorating (Vendome); globetrotting textile designer and Town & Country contributing editor Lisa Fine; and in from London, accessory, fabric, and interior designer Penny Morrison, whose Welsh manor house is included in Fine's new book, Near & Far: Interiors I Love (Vendome Press). All three agreed that while everyone loves Instagram, nothing comes close to making a discovery the old-fashioned way.
