A s we go to press with our Spring Fort Worth issue, we're prepping to celebrate the 2020 Jewel Charity Ball on February 29, chaired by Lou Martin, at its new home in Dickies Arena. It's Fort Worth's longest-standing black-tie event (founded in 1953), and this year Martin, alongside co-chairs Anne Paup and Sally Prater, have planned "One Enchanted Evening." But before the Jewel Ball, the jewel in the crown of the fundraising scene, a series of lead-up events ups the excitement to celebrate and give big. First out of the gate was the Men's Party, held at the home of longtime supporter Paul Dorman. A who's who of Fort Worth males were there, and a long queue of luxury boy-toy cars snaked its way up Shady Oaks Lane towards the valet and Dorman's well-appointed mid-century modern home, where an assort ment of vintage cars dotted the circular driveway. In between catching up with friends, guests perused the wares from Bachendorf's and Beretta Gallery. The Women's Party, held a few weeks later at the home of Laurie and Len Roberts, had its share of well-heeled girls, chitchatting gown ideas for the big February event. The third pre-soirée was for bubbly and shopping at Bachendorf's. So many high-profile guests were at each party, and we have so little space to mention them, but a few who come to mind are Cook Children's Health Care System president and CEO Rick Merrill, Jewel Charity president-elect Michelle Marlow and Dr. Scott Marlow, Christy Dunaway Smith, Olivia Kearney, Janis Brous, and Cook Children's chairman of the board Jerry Conatser and Cheryl Conatser.
