B illy Cotton's name is on everyone's lips these days. The Brooklyn interior designer's elegant Regency- meets-Bauhaus aesthetic is all the rage with artists and collectors, including photographer Cindy Sherman, who recently enlisted him to design her Manhattan and East Hampton homes. In October, the design world buzzed when Cotton was tapped as Ralph Lauren Home's new creative director — then buzzed again when Cotton announced the closing of his design firm (to work full-time at Ralph Lauren) and archiving of his furniture and lighting designs. But, Cotton fans, take heart: The designer has collaborated with Scott Group Studio on a new collection of rugs. Among the six styles, we're smitten with Cotton's Tortoise Shell pattern, destined to be the new animal print underfoot, created in the authentic tones and shapes of English tortoise-inlay furniture and accessories. And his interpretations of the classic English Hibiscus rug, which pays homage to the work of legendary English design duo Sibyl Colefax and John Fowler, reference the gardens at Brookby Mansion in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where the rugs are made.
