Heritage Auctions' new headquarters near DFW Airport OBSESSIONS. DECORATION. SALIENT FACTS. C ounting on Conduit: Continuing our commitment to Texas galleries, we devote this column to Conduit Gallery, which was founded in 1984 by Nancy Whitenack in the heart of Deep Ellum on Elm Street. Four decades and two moves later, Conduit remains a trailblazer. It was the fi rst to head to the Design District nearly 20 years ago when it opened its current space at 1626 Hi Line in 2002. Known for avant-garde programming and a diverse stable, Conduit's calling cards include collagist of curiosities Lance Letscher; the enveloper-pushing Heyd Fontenot, who has captured nude likenesses of key art-world players; Brit painter of haunting portraiture Sarah Ball; rigorous abstractionist Vincent Falsetta; activist Robert Barsamian; and quirky conceptualist Jeff Gibbons. Through July ART NOTES COURTESY THE ARTIST AND CONDUIT GALLERY CALLING ALL HOROLOGISTS L uxury watch brand Audemars Piguet is scheduled to open its first Texas boutique late June in Highland Park Village, stocking the complete collections for men and women. These coveted watches have a legion of loyal fans, including some who reside in well-appointed Hollywood Hills homes (we've seen late-night talk-show host James Corden sporting one for Carpool Karaoke). For a classic watch that can be handed down though generations, opt for the Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph — entry price in the low $200,000s. The m u l t i p u r p o s e c a m p u s , which spans the length of nearly three football fields, also consolidates Heritage's three previous Dallas locations under one roof, with offices for 450 employees and an 8,000-square-foot gallery showroom for by-invitation art exhibitions and events. Heritage is the world's largest collectibles auction house specializing in 40 categories including coins, comic books, and sports and entertainment memorabilia. In recent years, the company dramatically expanded into other categories such as fine art, fine and rare jewelry and timepieces, rare wines, and luxury handbags, and has the highest online dollar volume of any collectibles auction house in the world. The spacious building and centralized location near the airport means Heritage can better serve all of its clients, including bidders and consigners from out of town, says CEO and co-founder Steve Ivy. Next, the gallery will roll out a group view, followed by "Exquisite Corpse," a take on the Surrealist parlor game where different trios come together to organically create a drawing loosely based upon a torso ($900 each). Talents from Conduit's stable participate, along with guests artists Ryan Goolsby, Frances Bagley, Erin Stafford, Chuck & George's Brian K. Scott, Shawn Smith, Beili Liu, and more. The gallery divides all proceeds evenly between #BlackLivesMatter and the Emergency Artists' Support League (EASL) of North Texas.
