38 AN OF-THE-MOMENT RESIDENTIAL HAVEN: J ust a few blocks from the Belmont Hotel and Sylvan|Thirty in West Dallas, a new single- family project has begun taking shape during the pandemic — a striking collection of minimal, single- story homes with stucco exteriors and metal roofs, indoor/outdoor living with thoughtfully landscaped courtyards, surrounded by trees. And, though plans for the Haciendas were in the works long before the pandemic became a reality, the wellness-focused development could not be better timed. The team of sustainability- minded heavy hitters responsible for the Haciendas project consists of Lake|Flato, the architecture firm behind eco-conscious gems such as Hotel San José in Austin and several AIA Award-winning residences; Dallas-based Hocker landscape work (courtyards of the Dallas Museum of Art and Forty Five Ten downtown); Dallas interior designer Kathryn Nelson; and Oaxaca Interests — the same team behind Oak Cliff's Sylvan|Thirty development. "We had the benefit of working together before and thought, 'Let's use the same creative process for home building' — let's do something that would be different from anything else in the city," says Brent Jackson, president and founder of Oaxaca Interests.
