HUNT SLONEM A s I write this, Texas Design Week Houston begins today — hoping for good weather and five meaningful and fun days as the design world reconnects after a year of isolation. The PaperCity Design Awards votes are in, and I have to thank our impressive roster of judges: Alessandra Branca (Chicago, Palm Beach, NYC, L.A.); Tom Scheerer, Ashley Whittaker, Corey Damen Jenkins, and Matthew Patrick Smyth (all NYC); and architect Michael Imber (San Antonio). Winning projects will be featured in a fall edition of PaperCity. Going though the projects to ready them for the Design Awards presentation at The Sarofim House, I was so impressed with Rottet Studio's beautiful redo of the 100-year-old mansion that's been La Colombe d'Or hotel for five decades and the creation of a new restaurant and bar, Tonight & Tomorrow and Bar No. 3, within the hotel. In another exquisite renovation project, Ashley and Steve Putman gently and beautifully restored a 1913 Neoclassical Revival-style house in Courtlandt Place, one of 18 remaining original houses (pages 46-57). After we send three magazines off to the printer — PaperCity Houston and Dallas, as well as Round Top magazine — we'll begin to prepare for Texas Design Week Dallas, September 20 – 24, and the Round Top Fall Antiques Show, October 14 – 31. Mark your calendars. Holly Moore Editor in Chief holly@papercitymag.com 10
