THE 411 ON 550 MARKET + THE STONE CELLAR The Tres Outlaws Boot Company at Rockabilly Baroness, 550 Market BY CANDICE COWIN T HIS JUST IN: All summer, Landmark Hospitality Group (Steven Frietsch) has been hard at work on a redesign/rethinking at the iconic Stone Cellar and Round Top Dancehall in Round Top. Cue 550 Market, unveiling for the Fall Show. The warehouse between the original Stone Cellar bar and restaurant and the circa-1900 dancehall is being reborn into a set of 21 indoor retail spaces with event rental. 550 Market was designed by architect Issac Preminger, with interiors by Landmark's Kathy Frietsch (formerly with Houston's Thompson + Hanson). It will be anchored by Rockabilly Baroness from Landmark founding partner Cathy Mace Frietsch, who pairs couture western wear with fine handmade custom boots and more in partnership with The Tres Outlaws Boot Company. Kathy Frietsch will also have her own space, Fritch, featuring her unique take on casual, approachable antiques, art, and new artisan finds. Other vendors include the opulent interiors of Moxie; Koelsch Gallery, along with owner Franny Koelsch's fashion brand, Ears of Buddha; and prints by Carlos Hernandez of Burning Bones Press fame. Meanwhile, air conditioning and heating and an upgraded garden with comfortable outdoor seating, shade trees, and firepits are in progress — expected to be completed before Fall Show — at the beloved Stone Cellar bar, which served as a train depot in the 1860s. "Stone Cellar is a honky-tonk, and we really want to keep it a honky-tonk," says Landmark group founding partner Steven Frietsch. "But it will be a honky-tonk that serves good food — a lot of simple, d o w n - h o m e , traditional Texas food, but fresh. @ 5 5 0 m a r k e t , stonecellarwines. com. FORE! BIG EASY RANCH EXPANDS The Covey, a new 18-hole course, prepares to open at the Big Easy Ranch. B ig Easy Ranch, the private luxury sporting club on Brunes Mill Road in Columbus, Texas (about 34 miles southeast of Round Top), is preparing to unveil its new 18-hole golf course dubbed The Covey — and it's already attracting national attention. Scheduled to debut in late November, the course promises to become the centerpiece of the 2,000-acre property, which also offers whitetail deer and exotic hunting, upland bird and duck hunting, fishing, sporting clays, fine dining, and overnight lodging. Designed by master of golf-course designer Chet Williams (who honed his talents at Nicklaus Design), the course features 80-foot elevation changes, tree-lined fairways, natural running creeks, beautiful native vegetation, and waterfalls. To make Big Easy Ranch owner Billy Brown's vision a reality, Williams created a course where nine of the holes require a shot over water. The par-four eighth hole is particularly daunting, with two fairways separated by a stream running from tee to green. In total, The Covey course will measure more than 7,400 yards, unspooling over the picturesque Texas countryside.
