N ext door to Michie, Mallory et Cie's fashionable and fanciful jewelry d e s i g n s b y founder Mallory Nicholson moves to a bigger footprint, adding more refashioned apparel, from African indigos to French nightgowns from the 1800s, which the designer has transformed into stylish tunics and dresses … In the mood for 'cue? Round Top Smokehouse, one of the jewels in Lee Ellis' Round Top hospitality empire, doubles its space, adding a larger pit room, pizza oven, and climate-controlled indoor seating, with the whole Ellis Motel/ Smokehouse courtyard area now as the restaurateur's playground. Minding Minden: Tree-lined Minden Square is anchored by Brooke and Paul Michie's Round Top Brewing, which celebrates its first year this October. The warmly embraced nano-brewery features 24 taps and a homegrown menu that speaks to the seasons, as well as the historic beer-making tradition of this German hamlet. With neighbors like Tré for the Gathering, MimiBella, and Brooke's own Lollitop Sweetshop, Minden is one of the most charming squares in the community. Rolland Rendezvous: In Rolland Square, the trademark Veuve Clicquot continues to flow at luxury consignment boutique Modern Marla, where owner Marla Hurley has taken over the adjacent side of historic 1831 log blockhouse Moores Fort in Rolland Square. And not a moment too soon — the new side is already filled with amazing pre-owned Gucci, Prada, and vintage YSL. "The new space will be an extension of my current space, but more luxurious," Hurley says. "I've curated an extraordinary collection of designer handbags. Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Couture Versace, Celine, YSL, and others." … Leslie Kristen, who relocated from California to Round Top, is open for business in the space formerly occupied by Southern Beasts (which relocated to Henkel Square; see page 100) offering new, vintage, antique, and custom-designed furnishings and home accessories. Seeing Blue + Red: The Original Round Top Antiques Fair, the show that made tiny Round Top a must-visit antiques destination more than 50 years ago, is getting new owners. Although the deal has been in the works for many months, the ink is finally dry, and the antique show founded by the late Emma Lee Turney back in 1968, and operated for many years by its most recent owner, Susan Franks, has now been entrusted to another local Round Top family — along with its iconic Big Red Barn — real estate developer Paul Layne, the father of Blue Hills owners Corey Layne and Stephanie Layne Disney. The brother-and-sister duo, who purchased Blue Hills in 2018, will be in charge of running this notable venue as well. We Saw the Sign: Mayor Mark Massey writes in: "I will be donating 39 French cast-iron lampposts from the early 1900s placed around the downtown/business historic area. The town council approved the installation, so my goal is to get them ready by fall's show. Each will be repainted black and serve as decorative elements with hanging flower baskets, new street signage, and seasonal decor. It's all about beautifying the infrastructure and adding way-finding around town. They will not be electrified in order to respect town's 'Dark Skies' policy … we like seeing our stars at night!" … Speaking of celebrating the village feel, want to take home some classic Round Top merch? The recently unveiled Round Top Emporium, 107 Main Street, is your place for locally themed gifts and goodies. We can personally vouch for the Round Top-branded popcorn.
