EASY DRIFTER Floats Into BRENHAM F ormer oil and gas executive Jared Anderson and pastry chef Kathleen Matthews have expanded their Brenham empire with a new downtown storefront, Easy Drifter. The new shop has the same casual-luxe hunt-club vibe as their Ballad of the Bird Dog general goods store, but with a focus on menswear and more offerings from Anderson's native Southwestern U.S., including vintage handmade Navajo rugs and leather goods. The store also has a pop- up barber shop and a space for classes in hat shaping, candle and soap making, and leatherworking. Easy Drifter is a short walk down Austin Street from The Grand Leader building, which houses the couple's Ballad of the Bird Dog and their Mescalito Coffee and baked-goods ventures. Anderson and Matthews completed a thorough renovation and remodel of the historic space last fall to create room for their growing retail ventures and to provide space for additional tenants. They also run The Side Door event venue and 1844 Liquor Market, the only package store in downtown Brenham. "We wanted to introduce great brands and quality products to this small town that we've come to really love and appreciate and create a space that covered all the bases," Matthews says. "A place where you're comfortable, the people are friendly, you can get a cool drink, maybe something to snack on, it smells good, and we're playing music that hopefully you enjoy." Candice Cowin O ne Square Mile Music Festival comes to The Stone Cellar and Round Top Dance Hall, with legendary singer Pat Green headlining and additional performers to be announced. The festival spans three days, Friday through Sunday, April 21 through 23. Festival founders include Michael Soper, Bill Miller, Steven Frietsch, and Round Top Publishers. VIP tickets include access to a private bar, lounge, and restrooms; general admission and single-day tickets are also available.
