B e sure to catch these top shows before summer's end. Moody Center for the Arts at Rice University taps six contemporary talents in "Resonant Earth: Contemporary Perspectives on Land and Body." Underscored by a conversation spun around indigenous peoples and diasporic populations, "Resonant Earth" features work by Kelly Akashi, Lisa Alvarado, Eddie Rodolfo Aparicio, Andrea Chung, Sky Hopinka, and University of Houston professor Anna Mayer. The exhibition is alternately poetic, metaphoric, and visceral, encompassing the media of glass, clay, painting, sculpture, collage, photography, video, and sound (through August 17) ... Check out Lawndale's iconic "The Big Show," juried by UT El Paso's Rubin Center curator Dr. Laura Augusta. This rambling survey showcases 140 works that speak to our region's aesthetics and au courant dialogue (through August 17) … Visit Seven Sisters for an encounter with Emily Peacock's latest photographic series, "Bruiser," among the season's most provocative and enigmatic image-making (July 19 – August 24) … Immigration is examined at Anya Tish Gallery via the experience of Colombian- born, Houston-based Tatiana Escallón. Her paintings and works on paper serve up abstract, emotional responses to this highly charged human-rights issue (July 12 – August 3) … At Josh Pazda Hiram Butler, gallerist/publisher Adam Marnie celebrates 10 years of his magazine F with a lively group view of past artistic collaborators including Houston's bad boy of international renown, Mark Flood (July 13 – August 17).
