W ednesday — the eve of the official opening day of the fair for VIPs — was met with a slew of events, including the Conservatory's fifth anniversary dinner at collector Marguerite Hoffman's home; a C2 Art Advisors + MOUS gallery pop-up at the MOUS Design District showroom; and a reception for visiting artist Gabriel Rico at Hôtel Swexan. The next day, the main event VIP preview opening was the usual madcap dash from booth to booth to acquire the most sought-after works on view. We bumped into just about everyone from our local art scene, as well as some intriguing international types (many looking like Wednesday Addams dressed by The Row), all sipping cocktails and excitedly recounting their schedule for the week. On Friday, The Cultivist Global Arts Club hosted a luncheon at Mirador honoring Patrick Martinez and Samuel Levi Jones, whose work was on view at the Fair. Highlights of the educational programs included public discussions at Nasher Sculpture Center, including artist talks between Guadalajara artist Gabriel Rico and the Nasher's chief curator Jed Morse; New York-based painter Karen Gunderson and Amon Carter Museum assistant curator Maggie Adler; and a conversation on representation between collector Komal Shah and Dallas Museum of Art senior curator of contemporary art Dr. Anna Katherine Brodbeck. The Joule, meanwhile, hosted the sold-out Eyeboretum, a family-friendly garden presented by Headington Companies that spanned 10 days. The best way to describe this annual event is a mash-up between Alice in Wonderland and a runway show by Alessandro Michele for Gucci. Overload It's impossible to list everyone we encountered during that insanely busy week, but here are a few of the art-world luminaries and socials we spotted: Collectors Katherine Reeves, Kara Goss, Zoe Bonnette, Selwyn Rayzor, and Christen and Derek Wilson; art advisor Cindy Schwartz; lifestyle influencer Moll Anderson; from the fashion world, Reed Robertson, Sabrina Dee, and Forty Five Ten's Robin Wilkes, and Kyle Branch; Klyde Warren Park president Kit Sawers; NBC 5's Meredith Land; designer Doniphan Moore; founding director and CEO of Pride Museum of Texas Michael Dewberry; Marlene Sughrue, wife of DAF founder John Sughrue; Emma Vernon of the artist collective The Cedars Union; recent West Coast transplant Kasey Lemkin; Kelley Cawley; Lori Mikles; Pete West; Vito Cammisano; and Brian Bolke.
