Why are your exhibiting at the Dallas Art Fair 2014? I don't do many fairs, but Dallas puts me close to terrific friends and almost all of my family. What connections do you have in Texas already? And what and who are on your itinerary when you come to the Fair? I am a fourth- generation Texan, born in Abilene and raised in South Texas. After the Dallas Art Fair, my schedule is about visiting loads of family between seeing all goings on at the various fine venues in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. As far as connections, I am sometimes able to talk my way out of a speeding ticket outside of Palo Pinto; politeness and respect counts. I am really excited to see all the new architecture downtown in the Arts District, in addition to an Arlington trip to see the art at AT&T Stadium. (I'm sorry y'all, I still cannot help calling it "Texas Stadium"). I need popovers from the Zodiac Room at Neiman Marcus Downtown. How will you curate your booth? Can you let us in on any surprises planned? Thaddeus Strode paintings, Alison Frey Andersson furniture and a sculpture by Vincent Szarek. If I told you about my surprises, you would not be very surprised, right? What's your trajectory as a gallerist? How did you plunge into the L.A. art scene? I attended NYU in the 1980s and worked for a variety of galleries in Manhattan. Thomas Solomon, a fellow Dallas Art Fair exhibitor offered me a terrific job in L.A. in the 1990s. I then stayed in beautiful, sunny L.A. and opened up a gallery specializing in drawings called works on paper, inc. at 6150 Wilshire in 1998. Every year, the biggest and brightest cinematic gems take the silver screen and wow moviegoers in attendance. Since DIFF first began, it has been on every filmmaker's map — and with Lee Papert, president and CEO of the Dallas Film Society, leading the troops, this year is guaranteed to be no different. Cinephiles are invited to submerge themselves in the world of unprecedented film, thanks to a programming team spearheaded by James Faust and Sarah Harris. This year offers 172 features, documentaries, shorts and student films (spanning more than 27 countries), with 11 of these making their world premieres in Big D. This year's best-of fest boasts an impressive roster of films that will have movie buffs buzzing in their seats. Two films are already stirring up notable reviews. The first, Words and Pictures, stars Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche and was produced by Lascaux Films and Latitude Productions. "Not only is Words and Pictures a great film, but it was produced by two local organizations, so it's thrilling to feature a great piece of art from two wonderful Dallas companies," Papert says about the opening- night film. Gary Cogill adds, "We couldn't be more proud of producer Curtis Burch, director Fred Schepisi, writer Gerald Di Pego and the award-winning cast of Words And Pictures. It's a beautiful film, made with love and care, and we can't wait to share it with everyone in Dallas on April 3." The second hottest ticket to covet is for the closing-night film, which makes its world premiere at the Texas Theatre: The Starck Club, a documentary in which co-directors Michael Cain and Miles Hargrove reveal an important part of the city's history, with a rocking retro soundtrack from the '80s. Cain shares, "The Starck Club was truly unique. It was world-class, cutting- edge and always inclusive.
